Camp Ozobot: Coding Concepts through Robotics
CAMP DETAILS
Camp Ozobot will host separate sessions in the morning and afternoon based on age/grade level. Both sessions adhere to the program outlined below with modifications made based on content comprehension i.e. younger students may spend more time focused on ColorCodes and Line-Following while older students explore more with Ozobot Blockly and other advanced sequences and challenges. All students will engage with Evo, Ozobot’s coding robot, and work through critical thinking and problem solving to build coding literacy.
Morning Sessions
Times: 8:30am-12:00pm
Ages: 8-10
Afternoon Sessions
Times: 1:00-4:30pm
Ages: 11-14
CAMP OUTLINE
Day 1: Meet Evo - Introduction to Coding with ColorCodes
Ozobot Campers will jump right into the world of coding and robotics and become familiar with the Ozobot Evo and Color Codes. Teams will explore different examples and solve various coding problems in preparation for the day’s final challenge.
Day 2: Advanced Color Codes - Mega Line-Following Competition
Time to take it up a notch! Ozobot Campers will learn how to create more dynamic Color Code sequences incorporating line changes, time constraints, and counting. The day’s final challenge will have teams competing to create a Color Code sequence that will move Evo through the course as quickly as possible while collecting the most points.
Day 3: Meet Blockly - More Than Just Line Following
Ozobot Campers will learn how to program Evo in a whole new way – Ozobot Blockly! Teams will create and execute progressively more complex sequences of code blocks to solve programming puzzles. At the end of the day, teams will analyze a final puzzle and work to create the best solution using Ozobot Blockly and Evo.
Day 4: Intermediate Ozobot Blockly - Prepare for One Final Adventure
The final adventure will test Ozobot Campers’ ability to add loops and conditional logic to their code. While elevating their level of understanding, teams will also have to learn effective and efficient ways to locate and correct bugs in their programs. The camp’s final challenge will bring together all that the campers have learned into one final multi-faceted code puzzle.
