- Perform a Physical Exam: Learn essential skills for evaluating an animal's condition, complete with a real stethoscope, a well-supplied first aid kit, and an AVMA Pet First Aid brochure.
- Battle Against Diseases: Investigate common veterinary challenges, such as animal ear infections. Construct an origami microscope (The Foldscope), hunt for yeast in a pet's ear, and formulate a pet ear solution.
- Suturing Workshop: Gain a basic understanding of suturing techniques using fruits like oranges, bananas, and grapes. Progress to chicken legs or pigs' feet from the butcher shop.
- Discover How a Heart Pump Works: Engage in an engineering/technology build to explore the workings of a heart pump. Bake dog treats using a dog bone cookie cutter and a provided recipe.
- Dissections: Dive into dissections all week – sheep hearts, crayfish, and owl pellets – accompanied by a veterinary coloring book.
- Additional Activities: Participate in Strawberry DNA extraction, Pet CPR with Casper the CPR dog, drawing blood with our Life/form Canine IV leg, building a First Aid Kit, and making nutritious dog bone treats.
This unforgettable experience includes the chance to invite local veterinarians or vet techs to the camp when possible, offering insights from their busy profession.
