Join us for Cupertino's 8th Annual
Fall Bike Fest!
Strap on a helmet and bike to City Hall on September 25 for Cupertino’s 8thannual Fall Bike Fest! Check out the timeline to the right and preview some of the vendors and activities you'll find at this year's festival below.
Bike Rodeo: Safe Moves will erect a mini-city and skills course where kids can learn the rules of the road and bicycle handling skills.
Family Bike Ride: Join Bicycle Pedestrian Commissioners for a family-friendly bike ride at 10:30 a.m. Preview and download the ride route map. We will have paper maps and cue sheets available at the registration table.
Helmet Fitting: Community group Walk Bike Cupertino will make sure your bike helmet is properly adjusted. They will be handing out bike safety wings to the first 15 people who get their helmet adjusted.
Bike Safety and Reliability Checks: Community Cycles of CA will make sure your tires have air, your brakes are working, and your chain is well-lubed. Come early. There may be a line! No major repair jobs, please.
Ask a Mechanic: A mechanic will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about how your bike works.
How to Lock Your Bike Clinic: Come to a clinic at 12 p.m. to learn how to lock your bike securely so it is less likely to get stolen.
Bike activities: How much can you carry by bike? How many kids can you haul? At our last in-person Bike Fest, the winners of these competitions could carry 12 bags of groceries and haul 3 kids! Can you beat the records? Participate in this and other fun bike activities hosted by Cupertino Safe Routes to School and West Valley Community Services.
Art and Poetry: Bring your creativity!
- The Youth Environmental Power Initiative will be hosting a few bike-related art activities. Decorate the Bike Fest with your dreams! Create a flag that illustrates your vision of the Regnart Creek Trail, and how you hope to spend time on it once its construction is complete. Or add to a bike-themed wall mural.
- Write a Haiku about biking on a flag with Cupertino Poet Laureate. We will fly your poem in the wind at the Bike Fest.
Biking Books and Videos: The Cupertino Library will have books and videos about biking on display at it's Go Go Biblio vehicle.
Trailhead Cyclery: Stop by to say hi to your friendly neighborhood bike shop who will be showing off their wares.
Smoothies: Make a fruit smoothie on the City's blender bike!
Lunch: YY Noodle will be selling their delicious Chinese food so you don't need to pack a lunch.
Via Community Shuttle: Via is re-launching in the Fall, and most shuttles will have bike racks! A Via representative will be on hand with information on rates and discounts.
County Bike Maps and Public Transit: The Valley Transit Authority (VTA) will have County Bike Maps and local bus schedules and can talk to you about riding the bus with your bike.
Cargo Bike Demo (cancelled): Cargo bikes change lives by allowing people to carry almost anything by bike: kids, groceries, you name it! Unfortunately, this year's cargo bike demo has been cancelled due to low inventory. You can still check out Yuba’s various bikes online and see how the cargo bike revolution is enabling people to live a car-free lifestyle.
Summer Bike Challenge Prize Pick-up: If you participated in Cupertino’s Summer Bike Challenges in July, pick up your prizes** at the prize booth between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. At 10:00 a.m., we’ll announce and award prizes for:
- who rode the most miles
- who organized the biggest group ride
- which group ride had the most eye-catching theme
- which bike date couple was best dressed
- which Bike to Art Challenge participant wins our raffle
** Prizes paid for by VTA's 2016 Measure B funds.

Note on parking: We encourage you to bike to the event. If you drive, we encourage you to park at a nearby school (Eaton, Collins, Lawson) and ride in.
Note on air quality: We will be monitoring Cupertino's air quality as the event date approaches using IQ Air. Based on these guidelines for school children, below is our plan in the event of poor air quality:
101 AQI or higher: cancel family bike ride and kids’ bike rodeo but proceed with the remainder of the festival, including prize distribution.
151 AQI: cancel the ride, rodeo, and festival, but proceed with prize distribution booth in the Civic Center Plaza, with staff wearing N-95 masks.
200 AQI: cancel the ride, rodeo, and festival, and either move prize distribution inside to Community Hall or reschedule prize distribution.
We hope to see you at this year's Fall Bike Fest!
